We're looking forward to welcoming you to Westvaal Holiday Resort! To help make your journey and stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible, we've put together everything you may need to know before arriving.
Please take a few minutes to read through the information below and feel free to refer back to this page whenever needed during your stay.

- Warm clothes, raincoats, extra blankets and suitable footwear
- Extension leads and lights for fishing
Arrivals, departures and late arrival
🕑 Check-in
Check-in is between 2 PM and 7 PM.
🌙 Arriving after 7 PM?
Late arrivals must be arranged with us in advance, or as soon as you become aware of an unexpected delay.
🕚 Check-out
Check-out is between 8 AM and 11 AM.
⏳ Late departures
During quieter periods, late departures may sometimes be arranged, subject to availability and incoming reservations for your specific unit or campsite.
Many of our units and campsites include designated fishing spots. In most cases, it is therefore unfortunately not possible to vacate your accommodation while continuing to use the fishing area, as the next guest will also be expecting access to the full experience.
Outgoing guests are welcome to spend the remainder of the day enjoying the swimming pool and restaurant/bar area.
Fishing spots and breakage deposits
🎣 Fishing spots
Please remember that many of our accommodation units and campsites include designated fishing areas. These spaces form part of the experience for incoming guests and should therefore be vacated together with the accommodation or campsite.
🔑 Breakage deposit
A refundable breakage deposit of R500 per unit applies to applicable accommodation reservations.
The deposit may be paid by cash, card or EFT and does not apply to campsites or Booking.com reservations.
If you are due a refund after checking out, please send your banking details together with your booking reference via WhatsApp.
Unclaimed deposits may be allocated as credit towards a future reservation.
Gates, reception and facilities
🚧 Gate times
Our gates are locked from 7 PM until 7 AM daily.
We understand that guests may occasionally wish to travel or explore during these hours. Arrangements can be made for guests who need to enter or leave after hours.

- Shop & Reception: 8 AM – 5 PM
- Outdoor Restaurant & Takeaways: In-season weekends and holidays, generally 8 AM – 5 PM
- Bar: In-season weekends and holidays, generally from 10 AM
- Swimming Pool: Available for guests
- Card facilities: Most major debit and credit cards accepted
Recommended routes, map and getting here
Your GPS may suggest alternative roads that are in poor condition. The routes below are recommended because they are generally the better-maintained and most reliable routes to Westvaal Holiday Resort.
📍 Distance to Westvaal
From Vanderbijlpark
After passing the Loch Vaal Hotel on your right, continue for approximately 1 km and then turn left onto Barrage Road where you will see a sign for Parys.
Continue straight, cross the Vaal River at the Barrage dam wall, and pass Pont de Val and River Lodge on your right.
Turn right onto Vaal Eden Road (S171) and then follow the directions from the Vaal Eden turn-off below.
From the N1
From there, follow the relevant R59 directions below.
From Sasolburg via the R59
Continue for approximately 500 metres after the tollgates and then turn right onto Barrage Road, where you will see a tourism sign for Bon-Af Berry Farm.
Continue for approximately 7 km and then turn left onto Vaal Eden Road (S171).
Follow the directions from the Vaal Eden turn-off below.
From Parys via the R59
Take the Vaal Eden off-ramp on your left, just before the Vaal Plaza toll gates.
Please do not take the Vaal Eden dirt road just outside Parys.
Please also note that road conditions on sections of the R59 can occasionally be affected by potholes or roadworks.
Continue as described above by taking Barrage Road and then turning left onto Vaal Eden Road (S171).
From the Vaal Eden Road (S171) turn-off
You will pass underneath the overhead Eskom power lines and see a Westvaal Holiday Resort sign.
Make sure you take the FIRST RIGHT underneath the Eskom lines, in front of our sign, onto the TARRED ROAD.
Do not take the dirt road behind our sign, as this will lead you off track.
🌿 You're almost here
As you enter the farm, the roads become part of the experience. Please take it slow, kick off your shoes and breathe in the change of scenery.
Children at play, young cyclists, roaming wildlife and farm animals may be ahead.
Follow our tarred road for approximately 1.5 km. This will lead you directly to the boom gate at Reception.
Please park in the designated parking area on the left and do not park in front of the boom gate.
🛣️ Road condition update
The potholes on Vaal Eden Road leading up to our turn-off have been repaired.
Our own tarred farm road may not be completely flawless, but it is in good condition and, with responsible driving, provides a comfortable route all the way to our doorstep.
If you follow the recommended routes above, you should have a smooth and pleasant road experience all the way to Westvaal.
🌧️ Road conditions after heavy rain
In the event of heavy rain before your arrival, please keep the following in mind:
- Puddles may form that look deep but are generally safe to drive through slowly.
- Sand from surrounding crop fields may occasionally wash onto the road, making sections of tar appear more like a dirt road. The surface generally remains solid and safe.
- As with most roads affected by rain, shallow potholes may occasionally form, so please drive carefully.

River, fishing and ongoing improvements
🌿 Riverbank restoration
Our riverbanks continue to recover following previous flood events. While significant progress has been made, some areas may still be uneven or require final restoration work.
In some areas, surfaces may become slippery after rain, and certain steps or staircases may still be undergoing repairs or improvements.
🐟 Fishing conditions
River and fishing conditions can change depending on weather, rainfall and water releases.
🛠️ Ongoing improvements
Westvaal is continuously being improved and maintained. During your stay, you may occasionally notice maintenance or improvement work taking place around the resort.
Our team will always do their best to carry out work as quietly and discreetly as possible while ensuring that the resort continues to improve for our guests.
Electricity and outages
Before reporting a power problem, please run through the following quick checklist.
1️⃣ Loadshedding or area outages
As a rural property, Westvaal can be affected by national loadshedding and unplanned electricity outages.
2️⃣ Power overload
Please avoid using multiple high-powered appliances at the same time, such as heaters, kettles and stoves.
Our electricity supply is shared and circuit breakers are installed to help protect the system, appliances and guests.
• Switch off or unplug appliances
• Reset the circuit breaker in your unit or at your campsite
• Switch appliances back on gradually
3️⃣ Faulty appliance or plug
Sometimes an appliance or plug can cause a circuit to trip. Try unplugging appliances one at a time before resetting the breaker.

⚡ Storm-related outages
Because we are located on a farm, lightning storms and surrounding weather conditions can occasionally affect our electricity supply.
Where possible, we will keep checked-in guests informed of significant unplanned outages.
Quiet hours, fire safety and wildlife
🔇 Respect for other guests
- No loud music, boom boxes or disruptive behaviour
- No fireworks
- Absolute quiet from 10 PM onwards
- No smoking inside accommodation units
- No pets inside accommodation units
🐒 Wildlife
Westvaal is home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys and other roaming species.
All wildlife on the property must be respected and may not be harmed or disturbed.
🌿 Protecting our environment
Please help us protect the river and wildlife by ensuring that all litter is properly disposed of.
Fishing line and hooks are particularly dangerous to wildlife and children. Please ensure that all fishing gear and litter is removed from your site.
Firewood is available for purchase.
🔥 Braais and fire safety
Campsite guests are welcome to bring their own braais. We continue to replace and upgrade existing braai facilities, so availability may vary between sites.
- Light fires only in designated braai areas or fire pits
- Never make fires directly on grass or bare ground
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Extinguish fires completely before going to bed
- Take extra care during dry or windy weather

🚨 Emergencies after hours
For emergencies or disturbances after hours, please call rather than WhatsApp, as WhatsApp messages are not continuously monitored overnight.
📲 Staying in touch
Please save our WhatsApp number, 076 525 0575, to receive important information and updates before and during your stay.
If you will be using a different WhatsApp number during your stay, such as another family member's phone or a local SIM, please let us know in advance.

If you are travelling as part of a larger group, please make sure that everyone in your party receives important updates.
